Foodbank

Bedford Foodbank is a charity that provides a minimum of 3 days emergency food support to people experiencing crisis in our local community. Every day people in Bedford go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to ill health, to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income, or to experiencing delays in benefits payments.

At Bedford Foodbank we address this by providing free emergency food parcels. We have over 80 volunteers who help each week, and we work with referral agencies throughout Bedford to ensure clients can be signposted onwards for further support. All of the food we give out is donated by the public, but any money donated will be used to keep the foodbank running by paying vital ongoing running costs of the van, warehouse rental, and salary costs of two part-time staff.

We have parishioners from Holy Cross who currently volunteer to help Foodbank in different ways. There is a Foodbank collection basket at the back of church and each week the Newsletter lists the most urgent items needed.  The parish hall is used as a food distribution centre on Wednesdays between 1pm and 3pm.
